Suburb: Eltham, Melbourne | Services: Exterior House Painting

This is a lovely heritage cottage in Eltham. The cottage was built around 1911 as part of the Stanhope Estate in Eltham. Our client rented it in the early 1980’s, although it was dilapidated, and then by chance purchased it some 20 years ago and restored it. A lot of windows came from demolition yards and were original from that period meaning they contained lead paint.

We were asked to paint 3 sides of the cottage and later the shed/studio as well. Our client was retiring and wanted the house to last her for the next 20 years.

It was clear about 30% of the weatherboards and some of the windows required stripping prior to painting. We stripped the weatherboards using our grinder into our Festool H-Class dust extractor specified for lead and scraped back the windows using our tungsten blades (dampened down first) and paint stripper and sometimes heat gun on low heat where required. We also electric sanded using our Festool sanders into the dust extractor. Where we stripped timber or had bare timber we applied oil undercoat prior to painting.

Our client was so happy with the process, our painters and the final finish. The house is now looking fantastic and should keep her going for the next 20 years.
