Suburb: Northcote, Melbourne | Services: Exterior House Painting

This is a large 2-storey weatherbord home in Northcote which we repainted in the existing colour scheme.

It was a difficult house to quote as we couldn’t see everything or the condition, especially down the blind side, and we had to estimate which fortunately was reasonably accurate.

Some of the weatherboards were bubbling and peeling so we had to strip those boards prior to electric sanding, filling and oil undercoating. When we strip paint from older homes like this we follow our lead paint protocols to minimise lead dust. We generally use our grinder for the stripping which is attached to our Festool dust extractor (specified for lead). We then electric sand with our sanders plugged into the dust extractors. Other timber and boards just needed paint scraped back and spot oil undercoating.

At the front there was a gap in the render next to the front steps that we filled with mortar before painting.

We used scaffolding to access the 2nd-storey areas. It sounds easy using scaffolding however there is alot of climbing involved to get up and down and usually gaps we have to work over especially where the house has angled shapes, like this one does.

The preparation and repainting has lifted this home which looks amazing now!
